Cuban An Apple Fanboy
posted by acaben on Friday January 25, @07:42AM
iPod + iTunes Mark Cuban, the outspoken owner of the Dallas Mavericks, HDnet, and dotcom v.1 millionaire is a self-admitted Apple Fanboy. He's gone through several generations of iPods and was one of the first to order the MacBook Air. But what's most interesting is that he's working on ways to embrace Apple's idea of the iPod Touch as not just an iPod, but a mobile wireless platform.
"I just sent an email to the Mavs IT head to see how we fans with ITouchs (and Wifi devices like Nokia among others) could leverage WiFi in the American Airlines Center before , during and after Mavs games, HDNet Fights and other events..."

That's good news, since Apple announced in it's most recent earnings conference call that they way to grow the iPod line is by looking at it as more than just a music playing device.

    J. J. Abrams is a Fanboy, Too (Score:2)

In his "TedTalk" [youtube.com], J. J. Abrams (Director of "Cloverfield" and "Lost") unabashedly confesses his love for his Powerbook and admits that it challenges him...

... it basically says, "What are you going to write that's worthy of me?" And often, I'm, like, "Dude... today I'm out -- I got nothing."

In all seriousness, though, if Apple can inspire entrepreneurs and innovators like Cuban and Abrams to think creatively using Apple products as their medium, then there will always be market demand for those products.

Fanboy isn't buying Apple kit. Fanboy is reading Daring Fireball or Dangerously Psychotic Eran Dilger or threatening people to take the company to task, harassing journalists, stalking them, etc. That's a fanboy. This dude seems to have a life. Fanboys by definition have no lives.

    a Newton?

Give me handwriting recognition (better than InkWell though, say as good as RitePen), a decent inking note-taking application (like EverNote) and a nice drawing program (like to FutureWave SmartSketch) and a bitmap painting program like ArtRage and I could set aside my Fujitsu Stylistic.

I suppose that Apple has to shy away from certain things due to the AT&T agreement, but I'd still like to see iChat / Adium X type messaging on the iPod Touch and the iPhone for free use with WiFi.
Of course VoIP support would be great too.

I wonder when that open-source video chat project will come to fruition. It'd be great to see that ready to merge with Adium and Adium X. At that point it should be easy to port it all to whatever CPU the mobile devices are running, and Apple TV too for that matter.
